Ireland Road Trip: Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle

Actual date of this event: 11 June, 2015

After leaving Kilkenny, we had a few hours drive until reaching Dingle. We decided to make a few stops along the way to help break up the drive. The first of our stops was to the Rock of Cashel, also known as St. Patrick's Rock. located in Cashel in County Tipperary.
We arrived around noon. and paid the €7 fee to enter the grounds. The site was having quite a bit of work done, so a lot of the fortress/cathedral was covered in scaffolding.

Mostly in ruins, what stands now of the Rock of Cashel dates back to the 12th century.

{we could see Hore Abbey from the hill top at the Rock}

The chapel still had its roof, but was in need of restoration. The frescos that covered its ceiling and wall were fading pretty badly but we could still see some parts.

We finished up about an hour later, and moved on to our next stop - Cahir Castle. Located in Cahir, the castle is a large and beautiful castle sits on a small island surrounded by river streams.

We didn't have time to go into the castle, so we just looked at it from the outside. Im sure it is a great place to visit, so it's a shame we didnt have time. We continue our way on to Dingle from there.
It was 2.5 hours until we reached one of the biggest driving attractions in Ireland - Conor Pass!
